This fantastic award was received at the Shirehall, Hereford on 14/11/11. The Graduation and Awards Evening was organised by The Robert Owen Group.
“We were particularly pleased when Bredenbury Primary School were one of the first schools to pledge their support for the Co-operative Group’s ‘Green Schools Revolution’, an extensive new green education programme which aims to revolutionise the way young people learn about sustainability and healthy living. The aim of the programme is to inspire young people to become ‘green pioneers’, taking the valuable lessons they learn at school as part of the programme back home to their parents and into their wider communities, and to roll out the Green Revolution all over the UK. Bredenbury Primary School helped the Co-operative launch the programme by taking a starring role on ITV Central News and by posing for pictures for local press. We award Bredenbury Primary School the Robert Owen Group Most Environmentally Aware School.”
Bredenbury Primary School was awarded ‘Eco-School’ status during 2000 - the first in Herefordshire! It attained a Bronze Award as part of the Eco-Schools international award programme. The award enables the school to address a variety of environmental themes, ranging from litter and waste to healthy living and biodiversity.
Bredenbury Primary School is part of the Herefordshire Healthy Schools Programme - a partnership between the Council and the Primary Care Trust. It works with all Herefordshire schools, parents and whole school communities to develop a healthier living and learning environment for children. In particular, the programme focuses on healthy eating, personal, social and health education, physical activity and emotional health and wellbeing.
Bredenbury Primary School pupils have benefited by getting more physically active through extended sports programmes, walking or cycling to school and a wide range of physical activities appropriate to their age and needs. They have also learned about nutrition and how improving their diets by eating and drinking more healthily leads to feeling better and working more effectively. Developing positive relationships and learning about responsible behaviour is also part of the programme. We are affiliated to the British Heart Foundation’s Schools and Community Programme - Heartstart.
