Class 3 – Year 3 and 4
Teacher: Mrs R Turner
Teaching Assistants: Mrs Haynes and Mrs Ruthwell
We are a brilliant class of 13 amazing learners.
We are a mixed year 3 / 4 class with children ages 7, 8 and 9.
Each half term we read a book of the children’s choosing for pleasure. This year, we have read:
‘The Owl Who Was Afraid’ of the Dark by Jill Tomlinson
‘A Boy Called Christmas’ by Matt Haig
‘Gangsta Granny’ by David Walliams
In English this term, we have been on a chocolate overload with our class text ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ by Roald Dahl. We have been busy tasting chocolate and designing our own magical confectionary with wild and wonderful powers. We have also spent time rewriting our own versions of the tour of the factory as we imagined it when reading the book. We will also be looking at the Pixar ‘short’ ‘The Blue Umbrella’ – a story of love between two umbrellas in the rain. We will use this to inspire our own narrative based on a chance meeting of two objects to personify and bring love into the world!
In Maths, we will be consolidating the methods needed to answer questions that include the four operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We will also look at measurement, converting between units and solving word problems.
In science, we will be learning about Electricity and Light. During the first half of the term children will be thinking about where electricity comes from and how it is made. We will then work scientifically to create series circuits and explore how they work. Children will create accurate drawings to depict their circuits using the correct scientific symbols to show the electrical components they have used. After that we will look at light and how we see objects in the dark. We will look at reflection and investigate the best materials to keep us safe when out walking in the dark.
